When looking for leaks it is vital that you have the correct leak detection equipment available in your tool kit. By having the correct tools for the job you can save yourself hours of time and money.
As hydrocarbon refrigerants become more and more wide spread in the industry, it is vital to have a hydrocarbon leak detector that can quickly sense and alarm you when a leak is present.
Oz-Chill Refrigerants now have a hydrocarbon specific leak detector available. This system has a newly developed semi-conductor sensor which is extremely sensitive to a variety of hydrocarbon refrigerants.

Hydrocarbon Gas Sensors are used for the detection of hydrocarbon refrigerants. Detecting leaks can save thousands of dollars on refrigerant top ups. Oz-Chill has two main hydrocarbon sensors available, one comes with a rechargeable battery and the other is battery powered. Both are purpose built for hydrocarbon refrigerant detection and are effective for finding leaks on all air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Oz-Chill Hydrocarbon Refrigerant Leak Detector – Premium with rechargeable battery
This highly reliable broad range combustible Gas Leak Detector for Industrial uses, HVAC, plumbing and plant maintenance is highly sensitive and an extremely useful tool in any environment where coal gases, hexane, propane, methane, natural gas, fuel oil, ethane, Butane, pentane, isopropyl alcohol, halogenation hydrocarbon, (Methanol, Ethanol, Butanol) aether, ketone (butone, protone), Hydrogen, toluene, and other compounds, (gasoline, industrial solvent, lacquer, refrigerant, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, sulfured hydrogen, acetic acid, etc) and many other explosive gases may be present.
As a combustible gas or vapor source is approached, an audible signal (ticking sound) increases in frequency and the red lights illuminate in sequence, to show the intensity of the leak. Leak size is indicated by increasing LED lights and ticking sound. The larger combustible concentration the more light will lit up and the faster the ticking will be heard. Now you can see and hear your way to pinpointing dangerous leaks. It features a quick response, audible & visual indication, auto fast warm-up, adjustable sensitivity, low battery indication and a rechargeable battery. The unique flexible probe can be rotated and gives you access to gas leaks any area, even in hard to reach places.
Ideal for pinpointing leaks in gas lines and pipes, propane gas refill station, fuel in marine bilges, exhaust and fuel leaks, heat exchanger leaks, Hazardous living/working environments, and checks manholes for safety.
Broad range and provides the highest level of safety assurance! This combustible gas detector is UKAS, ISO9001, and CE approved!
Warranty: 2 years Warranty
The GD290 is a dedicated sensor with a factory set alarm point of 30% LEL R290. The device is totally fail safe in case of loss of power, cable, sensor failure and alarm. Other set points can be factory ordered. The sensor is factory-calibrated and requires no specialist tools to set it up.
The system comprises of up to 8 sensors and a high efficiency sounder.
The GD290 is wired to the mains via a 2A spur and generates all the voltages required for the GD290 sensors. The GD290 has a dedicated 2 wire o/p to drive the sounder flasher and has an additional I o/p of a SPCO volt free contact relay rated 2A 220v Non inductive. This additional o/p can be used to signal BMS or activate shutdown systems.
* 5% LEL also available on request for Hazardous Areas.
Applications: Cool Rooms, Plant Rooms etc…
GD290 Propane Gas detector designed for the refrigeration market
The GD 290 is a unique high reliability propane gas detector that is completely fail safe and ideal for use in new Propane based refrigeration gas systems to provide a first line means of detection of a leak of Propane gas .
The detector is fully encapsulated to prevent moisture ingress to the state of the art of electronics. It is housed in small safe contained housing with LED indication of any sensor drift and alarm status. The unit is factory set to detect gas at <10 % LEL Propane . The unit has a set of volt free contacts which operate on gas alarm. Power failure, loss of sensor, loss of cable connection making it failsafe The unit can be powered from 12 ~ 28 v dc . The technology used allows the sensor to power continuously without loss of calibration and it will not be affected if exposed to gas in excess of 100% LEL propane.
The unit is small enough to be placed inside the OEM equipment ( close to a potential leak ) and robust enough to be positioned externally in areas that may be exposed to gas.
The system interface is straightforward, 4 wires ; 0. +ve and two switched contacts normally closed)
The technology employed in this device has been used in the following applications
Multi sensor systems
In order to hook up multi-sensors all the normally closed contacts can be wired in series to provide a loop similar to an intruder alarm circuit thereby allowing it to interface to any manufacturers shut down or process control or
What customers saying:-
“Over 500 units installed and not one field failure in 4 years. It does what it says on the label “’
Mr F Spiteri Smokeshield
“I have been recommending these to my clients for a few years and know they have been happy with the product and technical support”

What a consultant to the air conditioning and refrigeration Industry has to say:
IAQ Consulting recommends the use of the GD290 gas sensor supplied by Gas Detection Australia as a stand- alone sensor that can be mounted around your AC&R plant in areas that could pose a risk area of a gas leak. As this gas sensor has a volt free contact, it can be used to connect to an Alarm or Fault connection should there be a leak. This contact can be connected to your BMS to alert the building manager or even drive a solenoid valve closed to prevent any further refrigerant leaking into the space and isolate power to the system.
There are many alternative Gas Safety controls supplied by Gas Detection Australia to suite any plant applications such as Multi Head VRF systems, Rooftop Package Units, Air cooled or Water cooled Chillers, Cold Rooms, Freezer Rooms and Ice Machines.
The GD290 is a low cost reliable solution for small projects and single unit applications.

STICKERS & LABELS
Stickers and labels should be used on every system that has a hydrocarbon or any other refrigerant charge in them.
Marking and Labeling of systems and units
For a unit or system containing a refrigerant charge of:
≤ 0.5kg – minimum label size is 15mm x 15mm
